On-premise infrastructure migration to AWS
As an AWS Consulting Partner, we help organizations assess IT infrastructure, software, and applications, architect solutions, and migrate workloads to AWS
Migration Customer Journey
STEP 1
Assess
Create a TCO model to build business justification for your migration project
STEP 2
Mobilize
Build your capabilities and experience how easy it is to migrate to AWS
STEP 3
Migrate & Optimize
Migrate your data, operate and optimize your cloud environment and applications
STEP 1: Assess your readiness
This is the beginning of your journey to a well-planned and executed migration. The Migration Readiness Assessment (MRA) helps you assess your organization's capabilities, readiness, and commitment to migrate to the cloud. At the assessment stage of the migration customer journey, we closely work with the AWS Migration Evaluator team to create a business case for change. We use a migration-evaluator tool to simplify the discovery of the on-premises computation, local storage, memory resources, and utilization. We match the on-premise infrastructure to the AWS resources and find the best instance size, licensing option, and storage type.
STEP 2: Mobilize your resources
Once we deliver the business case, we perform a detailed analysis of the needs, develop a migration plan and associated costs, identify the needs for security and compliance, automation, etc. This stage builds your capability to migrate to and operate in the cloud: focusing on operational readiness, skills development, a strong migration plan, including initial migrations. These initial workloads are typically not mission-critical, and can often be standalone or highly iterative in nature.
STEP 3: Migrate & modernize your workloads
The migration phase may involve different migration strategies, where Re-Host (lift and shift)* and Re-platform (lift and replace)** are the most popular. We make sure to plan for the costs and actions involved in each migration pattern and provide support so that the migrations can proceed rapidly and efficiently. We follow the work to build the foundational capabilities that will lead to successive migrations build out into a full-scale cloud operating model.
*Re-host (lift and shift)
Like-for-like applications are migrated to AWS with minimal effort to make the applications work on AWS. Storage migration is needed (without conversion).
**Re-platform (lift and replace)
The OS and/or databases are upgraded to AWS. Storage migration is needed. Applications are reinstalled on the target. User Acceptance Testing (UAT) is highly recommended. Databases are moved to Amazon RDS. Examples include: Windows 2003 to Windows 2012, Windows 2008 and earlier versions, RHEL and below; Oracle 8 to 11, all databases, new application releases, all clusters (MS cluster, DR), and Microsoft SQL technology (RDS).
