Digitalization of a curved parquet manufacturing company
About LEFF
LEFF is a manufacturer of curved parquet flooring. The range of products available includes curved terrace boards, home and office furniture, and various interior items.
LEFF is special in that it preserves the natural shape and texture of the wood, combining it with modern technology and original design.
Project challenge
The challenge for LEFF is to improve production efficiency and accuracy by automating processes that traditionally require significant manual labor and time. The main objectives were to automate production operations, introduce a single accounting system, reduce production costs, and speed up processes.
About the project
Digitalization of a curved parquet manufacturing company
To meet the company's challenge, Midis developed and implemented a modern Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system tailored to LEFF's specific needs. This solution includes the integration of machine vision technology for accurate product dimensioning and the development of a dedicated CAD tool for design automation. The main components of the solution include:
- Inventory management system: Allows operators to add inventory items such as slats, with the ability to print barcode labels directly from the interface.
- Image creation and automatic barcoding: Camera integration to scan barcodes, capture images, and record each slat in a database, improving traceability and management of inventory items.
- Mobile app integration: The app allows users to interact with the system on the move, validate images, and seamlessly integrate with milling machines to make immediate production adjustments.
- Graphical User Interface (GUI) for artists: A newly developed graphical user interface allows artists to process images directly in the system, significantly reducing the time previously spent manually adjusting images using external software.
The project was co-financed by the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA).
Functionality
An inventory system was built to make it easier to manage slats according to order. Each slat is tracked throughout the order.
The camera integrated in the project takes a picture of the slat and stores it in the system. The operator controls this process via mobile phone, the picture is taken and approved. This step is currently necessary in order to be optimised in the future using AI. As the operator trains the system, the success or failure of the image capture is determined, which will allow the AI to do this in the future.
The project developed a CAD tool that optimised the artist's daily work tasks. It allowed to take the load off the following operations: exporting images, processing each image, cutting out the slats, separating them from the background.
The solution allows the artist to obtain ready-made and separated images with only the slat itself. The artist then assembles them according to the custom floor plan.

Task
- Automate production processes.
- Implement a single accounting system.
- Reduce production costs.
- Speed up processes.
Solution
Development and implementation of an ERP system. Application of machine vision solution for product dimensioning and development of designer CAD tool. Creation and configuration of internal network, hardware selection, setup and networking.
Result
The project effectively optimises production processes, reducing non-productive time and increasing overall efficiency. Automation of the photography and calculation of the trap reduces the risk of errors and increases accuracy. Centralised management ensures transparency at all stages of production. Thanks to the improvements, lead times have been significantly reduced. The introduction of new physical devices, such as cameras and printers, increases efficiency. A common information base allows data analysis, reports on past performance and plans for the future.
